Private Albutt died of frostbite while on service in the Gallipoli campaign and was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Albutt of Golden Cross Lane, Catshill.

He was 27 years of age.

Private Albutt was invalided out of the army suffering from disease contracted while on active service. He was returned to hospital in England where he subsequently died on the 14/10/1915. He was buried in Dorchester (Fordingham) Cemetery.

Private Albutt was the son of Mr. & Mrs. D. Albutt of Westfields Road, Catshill.

He was 39 years of age and left a widow, Elizabeth.

Private Crawford was killed in action on the 6th August 1916.

He was in the forward trenches when he was hit by a shell, that fell among his section killing him instantly and wounding two others.

Private Crawford was the only son of Mr. H. Crawford of Golden Cross Lane.

He was 24 years of age and enlisted in February 1916. After training he was sent to the front on June 24th.

Before enlisting he was employed at the Austin Motor Works Longbridge.

Private Crawford had two years active service in the army before his death, and was employed by Bigwood and Sons in Bromsgrove before he enlisted.

Private Crawford is buried in Queen’s Cemetery, Bucquoy, Pas de Calais, France. Plot 3, Row E, Grave 3.

Private Davenport was the husband of Mrs. Davenport of The Flats, Bourneheath. He was reported missing on July 11th, 1915 and it has now been presumed that he died on or shortly after that date.

Private Davenport was employed in the Market Gardening Industry before enlisting.

Gunner Garfield was a reservist and was called up at the outbreak of the War.

He was wounded in November 1915 and sent home on leave for a short time. When recovered he was sent sent back to the front and went through a lot of hard fighting in many sharp engagements. He died in a Belgium Hospital from wounds sustained in action.

He was 25 years of age, unmarried and he was the son of Mr. Edward & Mrs. Garfield of Stourbridge  Road, Catshill.

Gunner Garfield worked on Barnsley Hall Asylum Farm before being called up.

Private Goode was killed in action on the 2nd July 1918.

He was the son of Steven and Emma Goode of Green lane, Catshill and was the youngest of seven  children.

Private Goode worked in his father’s market gardening business before entering service.

Private Harris was killed in action on the 3rd October 1917. He was hit by fragments of shells that burst near to him and was killed instantaneously.

He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Harris of Barley Mow Lane, Catshill.

Private Harris won the Military Medal the previous year for gallant work on the Somme. He was batman to his company captain for a few months prior to his death.

Private Harris left two small children.

Worcestershire Regiment 1/7th Battalion.

Corporal Harris had a distinguished career in the army. He enlisted up in September 1914 and served in France from March 1915 to September 1915.

He was sent home on sick leave in September 1915 until February 1916, but returned to active duty in France in February 1916 until May 1917.

Corporal Harris was awarded the Military Medal while in action in France and was recommended for a commission in May 1917, and was sent back to England for Officer Training until November 1917.

After being commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant (later Lieutenant) he was returned to active duty in Italy in November 1917.

Lieutenant Harris was a prominent handicap racing cyclist before the war and he believed that his fitness was a good grounding for the years ahead.

He was the son of Mr. & Mrs T. Harris of Rocky Lane, Catshill.

Royal Field artillery.

Corporal Healey died of wounds sustained when experimenting with a trench mortar. He and three others were brought into a casualty station with horrendous wounds and only survived a few hours.

Corporal Healey was the second son of Mrs. W. Healey of  Wildmoor Lane, Catshill. He was 24 years of age when he died on the 24th June 1915.

Corporal Healey joined the cavalry and served in India for two and half years before the war and was transferred to France in August 1914.

He was sent to the Dardanelles in April 1915 where he was wounded in the arm and was hospitalized. On recovery, in July, he was drafted back to the Dardanelles. After an engagement on August 6th he was reported missing, then subsequently reported killed.

Private Kings lived in Barley Mow Lane, Catshill.

1st Class stoker   HMS Pathfinder

HMS Pathfinder was sunk in the North Sea on a Saturday in 1914 by a torpedo from a German submarine , and Emmanuel Rutter was among the 242 sailors scheduled by the Admiralty as missing believed dead.

Emmanuel was the son of Mr. William Rutter of  Golden Cross Lane, Catshill and was 27 years of age and was survived by a brother and seven sisters.

He entered the navy six years ago serving on HMS Russell and on HMS Wear before being transferred to HMS Pathfinder.
